What is Work-Study?

Federal Work-Study Program

  • Jobs are available both on and off campus.
  • Available to Bearkats who show financial need and want to earn a portion of their education expenses.
  • Most jobs begin at minimum wage, but there are many other benefits such as flexible work hours.
  • Visit PeopleAdmin to view available positions.

Texas Work-Study Program

  • Jobs are located on-campus
  • Available to students who are Texas residents, show financial need, and want to earn a portion of their education expenses.
  • Most jobs begin at minimum wage, but there are many other benefits such as flexible work hours.

How do I Receive Work-Study?

  • Contact the Financial Aid & Scholarships office at workstudy@shsu.edu to determine eligibility.
  • If you are a student worker, your department can contact workstudy@shsu.edu to determine work study eligibility.

How much can I earn through Work-Study?

A student can earn up to $4000 for the academic year ($2000 Fall and $2000 Spring).

Will the money I earn go toward my Tuition and Fees?

No. All money earned is paid directly to the student in the form of Bi-Weekly pay.

No. If you are interested in Work Study, please contact the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships at 936-294-1774 or workstudy@shsu.edu to verify your eligibility for Work-Study.

When I am awarded will I be assigned a work study job?

No. Students are responsible for finding their own work study jobs. They may do so by visiting PeopleAdmin and searching for jobs.
